Mohawk Industries (MHK)

Consumer Discretionary

Behind the Numbers

MHK reported non-GAAP EPS of $1.86 in 1Q24 which was 18 cps ahead of the consensus estimate. Revenue was a slight beat. However, as is often the case with this company, there were two one-time accounting-related benefits that BTN believes accounted for almost all the earnings beat - lower allowance for bad debt could have added as much as 12 cps and a decline in warranty accrual relative to sales could have added as much as 5 cps. Both items have been benefitting results for multiple quarters and BTN expects them to shift to becoming earnings headwinds.

Boyar Research significantly outperforms the S&P 500…again

Boyar Research

In April of last year Boyar Research released a special report detailing 19 companies they believed would do well amidst the market sell-off. One year later, the ideas profiled have advanced 77.7% on average, outperforming the S&P 500 by ~27%. This is especially noteworthy (as well as a testament to their stock picking ability) due to the lack of high-flying technology names featured. Companies highlighted include Dollar Tree, Hanesbrands, Laboratory Corp., Mohawk Industries, Howard Hughes Corp. and Watsco.
